A culture of community involvement
Sedgman encourages and assists our staff to engage in community and charitable activities. Our donations and sponsorships policy and procedure provides a transparent, equitable and structured process for staff to apply for donations and sponsorship funding to assist their chosen cause. Sedgman employees are often active members of the clubs and organisations who benefit.

- CQ Rescue
Major Sponsor of the Central Queensland Rescue Helicopter Service (CQ Rescue) to enable them to continue providing an emergency aero-medical service covering the Bowen Basin from Collinsville to Clermont. The area serviced by CQ Rescue is greater than four times the size of Tasmania.

Silver Sponsorship of the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA) – a partnership between the Queensland Government, the Queensland Resources Council (QRC), and training and academic providers. - Wests Bulldogs Rugby Union Club
Major sponsor of the Wests Bulldogs Rugby Union Club, located near Sedgman's head office in Brisbane, Queensland. Our sponsorship enables the club to run a senior competition with over 250 players, and a junior competion with over 300 players, as well as coach women's, colts and premier teams. The club is committed to developing its younger players to represent both state and country and has produced 17 Wallabies and over 60 Queensland Reds players.

International Beneficiaries
- Sedgman staff in Africa initiated a program to renovate the Benga Primary School situated in the village next to our Benga CHPP project in Tete, Mozambique. More than 700 pupils were housed in two dilapidated buildings. Children sat on the floor for class with no electricity or running water, holes in the walls substituting for windows, blackboards white with wear and a rocky field which doubled as a playground and sporting oval. Sedgman Africa launched a fundraising project with money pouring in from Sedgman staff globally, which funded the renovations to the school, managed by Sedgman staff in Africa.
- Sedgman staff in Australia donated clothing, blankets and money to orphanages in Beijing, China to help care for premature babies at threat of illnesses during the freezing winter.
- Donation provided to The Children's Sanctuary for the purchase of swings and slides for Sva Houa School in Cambodia, which has helped to attract more students to come to school and cut down the drop-out and absences of the students from the school.
- Donations to children’s charities in Chile, South America, including the Casa Belen foundation for orphaned babies; the Escuela Pirque school for at-risk children; and to Teleton, the national campaign to raise funds to help disabled children.
- Donation to Yearn to Learn charity in China, to support the Lang Fang orphanage and to purchase shelving and other equipment to setup a library at Yearn to Learn’s headquarters to improve the education of the children it services.
Other Beneficiaries
- Donation to support Sedgman employees that participated in the Leukemia Foundation's Shave for a Cure "Mine Challenge" in Townsville. Funds raised went towards the expansion of the Townsville Leukaemia Units facility from 10 to 18 units, all of which are fully furnished, self contained and air-conditioned. Additional funds were raised by Sedgman employees.
- Sponsorship of Mater Foundation's "Smiling for Smiddy" challenge, supporting David Agudelo (a lawyer specialising in helping mesothelioma cancer victims) to cycle 1,600kms from Brisbane to Townsville in 8 days to raise funds for cancer cure.
- Sponsorship of the Sarina Surf Life Saving Club, North Queensland, to enable them to purchase markers, flags and other sports equipment for juniors, and to re-fit and rust proof their ATV.
- Sponsorship of the Leukaemia Foundation's "WA Special Needs Children's Christmas Party" - a party for children who have special needs and are suffering from life threatening illnesses.
- Donation to the Arthritis Foundation of Queensland to help make a difference in the lives of children and adults who struggle each day with the pain of their arthritis.
- Sponsorship of the Morningside Junior Panthers Australian rules football team, for their jerseys for the 2011 season.
- Funding to the Pioneer Valley Kindergarten Association, Mirani Queensland, to undertake earthworks to address ongoing flooding of kindergarten playground.
- Donation to the Arana Hills State Emergency Service (SES) Support Group to fund the purchase of equipment items such as welfare (Catering) trailers, ladders, lighting, generators, chainsaws etc and the maintence equipment to support all of this equipment.
- Donation to Conservations Volunteers Australia, Townsville, Queensland, for 1,000 native tree seedlings and equipment and labour to supervise planting in the Bohle wetlands close to our Townsville office.
